Arlington Heights, IL (October 2, 2014) — Residential Lighting magazine’s Managing Editor Nicole Bowling made the 2014 list of Folio:’s 20 in Their 20s, an annual recognition of rising stars who are executing some of the media industry’s most innovative ideas. Folio:’s announcement of this year’s honorees noted that the competition was fierce and being named an honoree is a major accomplishment.
After receiving her master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern, Bowling joined Scranton Gillette Communications in February 2012 as an editorial intern. By the fall of 2012, she advanced to the position of managing editor for Residential Lighting where she not only contributed to the print publication and its digital and web products, but raised the level and extent of Residential Lighting’s award-winning social media platform with her on-target instincts and social media aptitude.
As an active member of the American Lighting Association (ALA) Young Executives group, Bowling spearheaded an innovative scavenger hunt activity throughout downtown Nashville during the ALA Conference in September. The event engaged the lighting industry’s next generation by having them post team photos from various Nashville landmarks to social media using a designated hashtag.
Bowling shares the distinction of being named one of this year’s 20 brightest under the age of 30 with a diverse group of notables, including Pete Cashmore, CEO of Mashable; Callie Schweitzer, digital innovation director of TIME; Michael Shess, co-founder and publisher of West Coaster; and David Averbach, CEO of Mango Life Media.
In addition to her responsibilities as managing editor of Residential Lighting, including extensive travel to all market events, Bowling is on target to receive her certification as a personal trainer in November. In 2013, after training with a coach, she competed in the NPC Western Michigan Bodybuilding, Figure & Physique Championships.
Bowling will receive her award at the Folio: 100 Awards Luncheon to be held on October 21 during the MediaNext Conference in New York City.
