Arlington Heights, IL (March 31, 2015) — The Association of Business Information & Media Companies (ABM) announced that Denise Dersin of SGC Horizon/Scranton Gillette Communications has been named as the first-ever recipient of the Marianne Dekker Mattera Mentor Award. The Mattera award recognizes an editor whose dedicated mentoring of less-experienced and younger colleagues has helped advance their careers in B2B media. The award was presented to Dersin at the 61st annual Jesse H. Neal Awards ceremony in New York City on March 27, 2015.
Dersin is the Editorial Director of SGC Horizon’s Professional Builder, Custom Builder, ProBuilder.com and CustomBuilderOnline.com. An award-winning writer and editor for more than 25 years, she received four Jesse H. Neal Awards during her career. Dersin previously served as Editor in Chief of Builder magazine and Editor of Time Life Books.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this wonderful award,” Dersin says. “It’s been my good fortune to work with some very talented writers, editors, and designers and my pleasure to assist them in furthering their careers in business-to-business media.”
The Mattera Mentor Award was established in 2015 to honor the long-time Chief Editor of RN Magazine and Medical Economics and Managing Editor of MedPage Today. The late Marianne Dekker Mattera won a record 18 Jesse H. Neal Awards during her more than 40 years in business media and also received ABM’s G.D. Crain Jr. Award in 1997 for lifetime achievement in B2B journalism.
