Arlington Heights, IL (October 24, 2013) — Professional Builder and Building Design+Construction magazines have partnered with building product manufacturers to create two modular GreenZone prototypes inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia during the Greenbuild 2013 International Conference & Expo, November 20-22.
Greenbuild attendees can tour both structures on the second floor of the convention center, test the products and talk with the sponsor manufacturers’ representatives.
Professional Builder’s Greenbuild cabin is a modular woodland retreat designed by Resolution: 4 Architecture, New York, NY, and built by Simplex Homes, Scranton, Pa. The 806-square-foot modern cabin utilizes natural lighting and green technologies, including rainwater collection, a super-insulated envelope, greywater system, and photovoltaic array. At the close of Greenbuild, the green cabin will be included in a traveling road show.
Building Design+Construction’s “Pedia-Pod” pediatric treatment module is designed and constructed by NRB, Ephrata, Pa. The “kid-friendly” 14-foot by 42-foot module showcases a range of interior finishes, a specialized bathroom, treatment/recovery area, medical staff workstation and a waiting room/play area. Integrated are a number of design principles, practices and products that could make it worthy of a LEED Gold application. The module features high-performance windows, energy-efficient lighting and controls, and water-saving plumbing fixtures. After the show, the pediatric module will be on display at NRB’s offices.
