Arlington Heights, IL (March 20, 2017) — The Construction Media Alliance (CMA), a network of construction industry journalists, marketers, public relations professionals, publishers and social media contributors, announced the winners of its inaugural editorial and marketing awards at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017. SGC Horizon’s Building Design+Construction (BD+C) took home an award in two categories, plus the top honor of Best of Show, and Scranton Gillette Communications’ Roads & Bridges magazine took home a Best Column Award.

The winners were selected by a panel of industry peers based on criteria determined by CMA’s volunteer-led awards committee.

Building Design+Construction won the Best Issue Award for its January 2016 issue, the Best Series Award for its March 2016 “Tech 3.0” Series, and the Best of Show Award for consistently high scores awarded by the judging panel.

“Our editorial team is humbled and honored to be the first CMA award recipients in two categories,” says BD+C Editorial Director Dave Barista. “We are extremely proud to also bring home the Best of Show Award.”

Roads & Bridges Editorial Director Bill Wilson received the Best Column Award for his “Flimsy Protects the Flesh” column from the November 2016 issue. “It is always a tremendous honor to be recognized by your peers,” adds Bill Wilson. “And being an inaugural award recipient is especially rewarding.”

According to CMA volunteer Bill Elverman, director of public relations at PKA Marketing, the Alliance was launched in 2015 with a peer-recognized awards program in mind to honor the work of the construction industry’s communicators. “The 2017 winners represent quality in communications skills, creativity in tackling industry issues, and a deft understanding of the topics and issues facing our industry today,” says Elverman. “It was an honor to recognize their work.”

The Construction Media Alliance also announced a new award to honor the memory and legacy of Tudor Van Hampton, a longtime industry journalist and editor with Engineering News-Record who passed away in February. Entries will be accepted later this spring for the Tudor Van Hampton Award for Editorial Excellence, and the entry fees will be donated to charity. This special award will honor a single journalist’s body of work over the previous 12 months.
