Arlington Heights, IL (May 2, 2013) — Crain’s Media Business magazine announced that Ed Gillette, CEO of Scranton Gillette Communications (SGC), has been named the 2013 Top Innovator in Business Publishing, in the Small Trade, CEO category.

In its 10th annual awards report, Media Business recognized Ed Gillette for growing SGC during a recessionary economy through two acquisitions in 2009 and the forming of SGC Horizon in 2010. With the additional brands and events in the SGC stable, the company doubled its revenue between 2009 and 2012. Scranton Gillette also expanded its custom media division and introduced MediaPress Studios as a full-service web development arm.

“The recession was the best thing that ever happened to our company,” says Ed Gillette. “Not only were we able to acquire quality products, but we also made the investment in quality people and technology. Innovation is the result of solid teamwork, and I am very fortunate to work with a stellar team.”

Honored executives are selected from large trade, small trade and general business media companies across six categories, including CEO, and will be recognized at a June 13 luncheon at the Union League Club in New York. The honorees represent 10 media companies, including New York Times Co., McGraw-Hill Cos. and Forbes Media, in addition to Scranton Gillette Communications.
