Arlington Heights, IL (December 17, 2013) — Energy efficiency and indoor/outdoor synergy through the use of expansive windows and outdoor living spaces are the focus of the two Show Village homes, the BASF BEYOND.High Performance Net Zero home, and the Ultimate Kitchen to be built at the International Builders’ Show/KBIS, February 4-6. SGC Horizon’s Professional Builder magazine and dozens of product manufacturers are sponsoring these products-at-work environments on the parking lot outside the main entrance of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The large Country House, built by California-based Cutting Edge Building Group, offers a master wing with a sitting room and ample closets, a multilevel great room, a spacious kitchen and 3-foot-wide, wheelchair-accessible doors. An energy-recovery ventilator system, solar panels and hydroelectric power from an adjacent waterfall combine to make it a net-zero energy home.

The modern Fire Island “upside-down” home, also built by Cutting Edge, features a kitchen, living space and a master suite on the upper level, and three bedrooms and two baths on the lower level. Designed as a “glass house” for maximum water views, the number and size of the windows, using triple-coated low-E glass, reduce thermal heat gain. The 2-by-6-inch exterior wall construction allows more room for insulation.

The BASF BEYOND.High Performance Net Zero Home is built to achieve at least 50% more enhanced energy performance than in code-built homes — and represents a high-performance home of the future.

New at Show Village 2014 is the Ultimate Kitchen, a modern, stand-alone, high-end unit crafted by renowned kitchen designer Wendy Johnson, CMKBD. Sponsored by Food & Wine and SGC Horizon’s Professional Remodeler magazines, the kitchen is designed to handle the demands of two gourmet cooks at once, and features oversized countertops and sinks, with a 17-foot island as the focal point.
